The Real Impact of SNAP cuts with Dr. Jessica Knurick

A recording from Jessica Knurick, PhD, RDN and Katie Couric

Yesterday, I joined Katie Couric to talk about what’s happening with SNAP, as benefits are set to not go out for the first time in history tomorrow.

We unpacked what SNAP actually is (and how it differs from WIC), why it matters for families and local economies, and what happens when that support disappears.

More than 40 million Americans, including 1 in 5 children, rely on SNAP to afford groceries each month. If benefits don’t go out, food insecurity could more than double. Hunger would rise sharply, especially for families already spending 30–40% of their income on food. Health costs would increase. And local economies would take a hit, as SNAP puts about $100 billion a year into grocery stores and food retailers.

Watch our full conversation below, and share it with someone who wants to understand what’s really at stake.
